As always, we have loved travelling around Wales, meeting people and experiencing our wonderful country and so thought it would be fun to write some blogs about these amazing places. If you plan to travel to Wales and want some more information or if you are already living in Wales and want to know more about your great country, then these are the blogs for you.

Those of your who follow our journey at Babi Bw, will know that we have been touring Wales this year with our beautiful organic cotton baby products and stocking up at some lush shops across the country. This means that not only can you get our products online but if you live near or are visiting one of our suppliers, you will be able to see and feel our products for yourselves. There is nothing quite like holding our super soft organic cotton in your hands, you won’t be able to resist and we are sure you will love them.

One place that we have visited recently is Abergavenny, which is set between the seven hills close to the Welsh/English border. It is a breathtaking place, commonly known as the Gateway to Wales. You may also know it for its proximity to the Brecon Beacons and the Usk valley.

Visit Abergavenny

Abergavenny is a vibrant town and whilst there is no major industry there, it is full of the hustle and bustle of markets, festivals and of course tourists. With so many places suffering economically right now, it really is a pleasure to take a stroll and have a look around the many shops on offer.

For those of you that are interested in the history of Wales, it is interesting to know the history of Abergavenny and that the first major settlement was built by the Romans. In 1087, 21 years after the invasion of the Normans, Abergavenny castle was built. Around this time, it was known as Burgavenny and despite the black death arriving in the late 1340s, it recovered and remains a vibrant town today (source Abergavenny.org.uk).

As we mentioned earlier, there are loads of shops including lots of independents to choose from in the town, but no trip would be complete without a visit to Cuddle & Cwtch, our wonderful stockist of some of our super soft organic cotton baby clothes.

As well as being an ideal place for a browse on the high street, Cuddle & Cwtch can be found online at cuddleandcwtch.net as well as on Facebook and Instagram. Cuddle & Cwtch is a children’s and babies’ boutique, stocking a range of brands including our very own Babi Bw range. You will find clothes, toys, accessories, gifts and more in this lovely shop. It can be found on Frogmore Street, Abergavenny and you will be drawn in by the fun window displays and friendly staff. So whilst you are there, take a look for yourself.

Back to the present and it is worth mentioning that there is a market every week on a Tuesday, Friday or Saturday. This includes a flea market every Wednesday, a craft fair on the 2nd Saturday of every month (March to December) and an Artisan farmers market (every 4th Thursday of the month). There is also a brewery yard which is an events space with seating areas and a piazza.

Abergavenny is also home to Abergavenny Castle, a motte and bailey castle and museum. Stop here for a break from the present to step back in time (according to Abergavenny.org.uk) history tells us that in 1089, a Norman Lord invited 20 Welsh chieftains to a Christmas meal in the castle and whilst they were feasting, they were executed. On a happier note, the castle grounds and museum are free to enter and the views are spectacular so it is well worth a visit.

If you want some fresh air and a bit less history, Baileys park is another great place for a visit. With lots of outdoor space, a play area for little ones and cheap parking, it is a lovely addition to all that is going on in Abergavenny.

So we think you will agree, that Abergavenny is the perfect place to visit for a day out be it by yourself, with friends, family or little ones. There is plenty to do and some wonderful views of our beautiful country thrown in for good measure.
